The initial stage of treatment is usually a thorough cleaning that is intended to reduce the population of bacteria that has grown quietly, without notice, below your gum line. The tooth roots and the environment that surround them are home to many types of bacteria. When these bacteria begin to grow out of control, they result in the infections that cause loss of the teeth, destruction of the jaw bones and other associated health risks.
Our Infection Control Phase is always completed with local anesthetic. This provides our patients with a comfortable experience during and after their visit to our office. Air driven instrumentation, that is comfortable to the touch, is used to dislodge the bacterial deposits from the roots of the teeth. All of our dental units are equipped with individual water warmers to aid in flushing the bacteria out of their environment. Our staff may also use antibiotics, antiseptics or other irrigants to assist in this cleansing process.
A healthy environment below the gum line provides a perfect opportunity for healing. This permits diseased gums and jawbone to begin a repair process. Often, early cases are well controlled by this care alone.
