What Is A Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontists also place and maintain dental implants for patients who have lost teeth. They are dental experts in the treatment of all forms of periodontal infections that lead to gingivitis, periodontitis  and gum recession, even tooth loss.

The American Dental Association recognizes Periodontics as one of the nine specialties of dentistry. Periodontists receive extensive training, including three years of additional post graduate education beyond a normal dental school curriculum.

By choosing a specialist you will benefit from the latest procedures for treating periodontal disease and placing dental implants tailored to your needs. Dr. Adornato and other Periododntists often research and lecture on dental implant care and periodontal procedures for other dentists.
