Bone Grafting

Major & Minor Bone Grafting

Over a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies or dissolves away. This often leaves a site that has poor quality and quantity of bone. This site would be unsuitable for the placement of dental implants.

Today, we have the ability to regenerate bone where needed. This not only provides a patient with the functional benefit of dental implant care, it also gives every patient the opportunity to have an aesthetically pleasing, healthy smile.

Major Bone Grafting

Bone grafting can be used to repair implant sites with inadequate bone structure due to previous extractions, periodontal disease or traumatic injuries.  All of the  bone we use  is obtained from a reputable tissue bank or your own jawbone.  Sinus bone grafts (sinus floor lift procedures) are also performed by Dr. Adornato to replace bone in the posterior upper jaw. In addition, special medical membranes may be utilized that dissolve under the gum and protect the bone graft and encourage bone regeneration. This is called guided bone regeneration or guided tissue regeneration.  Dr. Adornato participated in some of the early research into this field of bone regeneration and will be happy to share her knowledge with you.
